Purpose: The Dissertation Award acknowledges and celebrates a dissertation that advances research on service-learning and community engagement through rigorous and innovative inquiry and has the potential for impact on the study and/or practice of service-learning and community engagement, including the communities, cultures, and systems within which it is undertaken.

Eligibility: Nominees can be from any academic discipline (or interdisciplinary program) and must have successfully defended and filed their dissertation between March 2025 and February 2026.

Evaluation Criteria

  1. 本论文所探讨问题对社区参与研究领域的重要性,包括其原创性及开拓新研究方向的潜力

  2. 所采用和/或开发的理论或概念框架的相关性与稳健性

  3. 分析质量,体现在严谨且符合伦理的探究方法、深入的分析以及令人信服的结论上。

  4. Potential impact of results and conclusions (on research and scholarship, on practice, on policy, etc.).

  5. Research that exhibits deep ethical reflection regarding the scholar’s positionality and the impact of the research on the community involved.

Nomination Packet

  1. 单页标题页,包含:

    1. 被提名人的姓名

    2. 被提名人的邮寄地址和电子邮箱地址

    3. 被提名人的所属机构及项目

    4. 被提名人的导师姓名

    5. 成功通过论文答辩的日期

  2. Dissertation Summary (not to exceed 15 double-spaced, typed pages), that includes:

    1. 目的/问题

    2. 理论/概念框架

    3. 方法及相关数据来源

    4. 结果/结论

    5. 本研究对服务学习和/或社区参与相关的理论、研究、实践和/或政策具有重要意义。

  3. A nomination letter from the nominee’s dissertation chair or advisor (not to exceed three pages). 

  4. A current copy of the nominee’s resume or curriculum vitae.
